We’re getting ready to take some time off to honor the season of giving thanks and making delicious food with loved ones, but you’ve still got time to swing through and grab your favorite local goodies for the dinner table.  In fact, we’ll even be open for a few hours on Thanksgiving morning for those last minute holes in your shopping list. On Friday, however, we’ll be among a small group of retailers keeping our doors closed. Whether you’re choosing to #OptOutside or stay #HomeInstead, make this a #GreenFriday.

TONIGHT 7-9pm

This week we’re showing “Scarlet Street” (1945) starring Edward G. Robinson & Joan Bennett but stick around for a special late night double feature this week.

Be The Perfect Guest

Thanksgiving isn’t just about hosting or cooking a big meal.  For many, it’s about visiting friends or family.  Here are five wines and beers that will make you the most popular guest at the table this year.

        1                2               3               4               5

Wine

1. Haak: Madeira Blanc du Bois

Notes: Caramel color and deliciously sweet, rich flavor. Produced from the white Blanc du Bois grape.
Nuts: All nuts, mixes with fruit, honey, spices, caramel.
Cheese: Blue Cheeses.
Food: Stewed meat with sweet and spicy elements.

2. McPherson: 2013 La Herencia

It’s packed full of juicy bramble fruit, tobacco leaf, and spice. The varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel, blended, and then aged fourteen months in both new and neutral French oak.
Cheese: Cheddar (Sharp)
Food: Enjoy this wine with your favorite Texas BBQ!

3. Tranquilo 2012 Texas White Table Wine

Notes: This Texas white table wine is an excellent all around wine. Great with salmon and sweet pastries or just as an accent to an evening’s dinner.
Cheese: Bleu, Raclette
Food: Salmon & Sweets

Beer

4. Adelbert’s: Dancin’ Monks

Notes: This clean, malty ale has a robust flavor with fruity, plum aromas. The carbonation balances the moderate sweetness from the malt, resulting in a dry and smooth finish.
Cheese: Brie, Gouda, Havarti
Food: Savory foods like barbecue, rich stews, grilled meats, and dark chocolate cake

Cider

5. Texas Keeper Cider: Heirloom

Notes: Texas Keeper Heirloom is a cider blended from three classic American heirloom apples with notes of grapefruit, white pepper, strawberries, light floral aromas and a hint of candied cherry, clove and ripe pear.
Cheese: Cheddar
Food: Salads & Pork

Vendor Spotlight

Texas Keeper was started in 2013 by three long-time friends born and raised in Austin. They literally hand built the cidery located in deep South Austin near the confluence of Onion and Bear Creeks.  They’re nearing the end of their Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for their new tap room.  If you’ve ever relished the crisp, delicious flavor of one of their ciders, consider supporting their campaign here. They’ve got some great perks, too!
