Our hearts go out to all those who’ve suffered damages and losses in this weekend’s flooding. We experienced some mild flooding along our back entryway and were forced to close early yesterday but we were lucky to suffer no further damages. As we all take stock of the community around us, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. Here are a few ways to get in.volved this week and help out with some worthy recovery efforts:
Urban Roots: Their gorgeous 3.5 acre East Austin farm suffered 7+ feet of water in some places, comprimising many of their crops. They’re looking for extra volunteers all week to help with Operation Farm Rescue 2k15
Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN): This organization was responsible for many of the effective relief efforts during the Onion Creek Flood a few years back. Support their current efforts with a donation and keep your eyes on their website for volunteer opportunities.
Peach season is upon us! Here’s a quick and easy recipe that features a delightful pairing of sweet peaches with the amazingly creamy and rich feta cheese from Pure Luck.

1-2 sprigs of fresh mint, roughly chopped
1 cup Pure Luck feta cheese (crumbled)
2 just-ripe peaches (medium, cut into 1/4 inch wedges)
3 tbsps balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cracked black pepper (freshly)
In a large bowl, combine lettuce, peaches, feta, and mint.
In a small bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, and pepper until emulsified.
Pour vinaigrette over salad and gently toss to coat.

Wine of the Week: HaaK Madeira Blanc du Bois
This Madeira is made from the white grape, Blanc du Bois, which is grown locally in their Texas vineyard. It opens up in the glass with aromatic fragrances of dried apricots and peaches covered with caramel. This sensation follows through on the palate with soft, buttery caramel-coated apricots and peaches with a soft hint of green tea and fresh lemons. This is a must try!
Happy Hour(s) $1 off pints/cans of beer and glasses of wine
$2 off pitchers, bombers, and bottles of wine Mon-Fri 4-7pm
Coffee of the Month: Equal Exchange Rabble Rouser
In honor of World Fair Trade day on May 9th, May’s Coffee of the Month is from our Fair Trade pioneering friends at Equal Exchange. Since the mid-1980s, their worker-owned cooperative has been championing small producers and helping build a better, more just economy. The “Rabble Rouser” is a feisty blend with dark brown spices and malt flavors rounded out by a heavy mouthfeel and alight, zesty aftertaste. Make May a month for shaking things up and start your mornings with the Rabble Rouser. On special all of May!
We want to change the way you start your week. Through the summer months, get savings on the delicious Wunder-Pilz Kombucha every Monday. Stop in for $1 off a glass of fermented tea and feel good about all the “wunderful” things it does for your body and taste buds alike. Hey, you might even start looking forward to Mondays!
Community Partner Wrap
The Literacy Coalition of Central Texas
This week we had the pleasure of presenting our recent community partner, the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas, with a donation check. For every container customers reused over the last six months, we pledged 5 cents to the Literacy Coalition. Combined with a portion of sales from each First Friday block party and 100% of sales of their handsome wooden coasters, we’re proud to provide meaningful financial support to an important non-profit within our community. Now let’s see what we can do to support our new partner, Guide Dogs of Texas, with even more BYOCs and Block Parties!
