With so many people coming to town right now the perfect host/hostess is always on the lookout for a great meal to feed their guests. With breakfast being the most important meal of the day why not make it fun! Here’s a great, quick and tasty recipe to start the day and keep you ticking through the afternoon.
Chocolate Chip Pancakes
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup milk
1 1/4 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips, or less to taste
Butter, for cooking
In a small saucepan, combine the butter and milk. Place over low heat just until warm and the butter is melted. Let cool slightly. In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt; mix well.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with a fork. Whisk in the milk mixture. Add the dry ingredients and mix just until barely blended. Add the chocolate chips and mix.
Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat. Add about 1 teaspoon of butter and melt until bubbly. Ladle 3 tablespoons of batter for each pancake onto the hot surface and cook until bubbly on the top and golden brown on the bottom. Turn and cook until golden brown on the other side, about 30 seconds more. Repeat until all the batter is used up. Serve hot.

Wine of the Week: Flat Creek Super Texan
The 2012 Super Texan opens with notes of bing cherry, blueberry and subtle warm vanilla. The balanced acidity and supple tannins carry these flavors into a long finish with a hint of spice. This wine is perfect to accompany wood-fired pizza, pasta bolognese, or pulled pork. This is their signature wine and exemplifies the best of what it means to be a true Texas Wine.
Coffee of the Month: Third Coast Coffee Double French
What does it mean to be Double French? Third Coast’s ultimate dark roast doesn’t require the pedigree of a Chevallier-Bardot or the ennui of a Cafe Sartre; it already has all it needs with that smokey and mysterious “je no se qua.” Dark as the existential universe, their Double French Roast would light your cigarette for you (if you smoked, which you shouldn’t).
Wunder Monday is back!
We missed it too, but it’s back! The ever popular #WunderMonday is here again and that means savings on the delicious Wunder-Pilz Kombucha. Stop in any Monday for $1 off a glass of fermented tea and feel good about all the “wunderful” things it does for your body and taste buds alike. Hey, you might even start looking forward to Mondays!

Monthly profiles of some of our favorite (soon-to-be) vendors
Last night we had the pleasure of witnessing two intrepid Austin entrepreneurs take on the world of mainstream American television as contestants of the new Food Network show, “Food Fortunes.” Cricker Crackers, the creation of two young Austinites that we’re proud to call regular customers, are delicious paleo crackers made with cricket flour. We were nothing short of in.spired by their plug for eating insects and “changing the global food system.”Though they didn’t land the big investment deal, they made a convincing and impressive pitch to the panel of judges (and millions of people watching live). Congrats to Leah and Megan! We can’t wait to count you among our community of local vendors working together to change the food system.
