View this email in your browser
With the winter holidays just around the corner, it’s a busy time of the year. We decorate our homes, winterize our gardens, and stock our kitchens for the arrival of loved ones and the cold nights ahead. Crock pots seem to find a permanent place on the counter as they simmer away, filling our noses with warm scents and nourishing memories of shared meals. We set aside a few moments on the way home from work or school to find that perfect gift for everyone on our list, special somethings that will light up their eyes and put a smile on their face. The next time you’re in the store, be sure to browse our many new holiday food and gift offerings. We have everything you need for a healthy, organic and sustainable holiday season.

Weekly Recipe

Slow-Baked Spareribs With Mango-Chutney Marinade
in.gredients

Makes 4 Servings

2 racks Richardson Farms pork spareribs (about 6 1/2 pounds)

1 cup dry Sherry

1/2 cup WF Tamari

1/4 cup oriental sesame oil

1/4 cup Kala’s Kuisine mango chutney

2 tablespoons Good Flow honey

2 green onions, finely chopped

1 tablespoon finely chopped peeled fresh Peruvian ginger

4 large garlic cloves, minced

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

in.structions

Arrange rib racks in large roasting pan. Whisk all remaining ingredients in bowl. Pour marinade over ribs, turning to coat. Cover; chill overnight, turning ribs once.

Position 1 oven rack in top third of oven and 1 rack in bottom third of oven; preheat to 300°F. Drain ribs; reserve marinade. Transfer marinade to saucepan; bring to boil. Remove from heat. Place each rack of ribs on large rimmed baking sheet. Place 1 baking sheet on each rack in oven.

Bake ribs until tender, basting with 1/4 cup marinade every 20 minutes and covering edges of ribs with strips of foil to protect from burning if necessary, about 3 hours total. Cut between bones to separate ribs. Transfer to platter; serve.

Wine of the Week:  Duchman Winery 2011 Vermentino
Vermentino is widely planted in Sardinia, Liguria, Piedmont and to a smaller extent in Corsica, Bolgheri, Languedoc, and Provence. Outside of Sardinia (and Texas), Vermentino is known by a variety on monikers including Pigato, Favorita, and Rolle. Vermentino is a late ripening varietal, and the resulting wines are typically aromatic, light, and possess a refreshing acidity. Duchman Vermentino is right at home with fresh seafood, particularly shellfish and oysters. The beautiful acidity allows this wine to be a versatile pairing wine with a variety of lighter dishes.

Vendor Spotlight: Happy Hemp

Monthly profile spotlighting some of our favorite vendors

Tara Miko (Owner)

One of the things we love is a healthy lifestyle but Tara Miko has turned it into her passion and work. Happy Hemp was founded on a need, a need to be healthier and is on it’s way to prove to the world it’s a need for everyone too.

After a bout with a string of health issues Tara searched for anything that could better her health but be natural and sustainable at the same time. When a friend recommended she try hemp seeds she went off in search but came up empty handed and when she did finally find them (the next town over) they were stale and tasteless.

She decided to take it upon herself to source seeds research the ideal conditions for them and learn just what makes these tiny seeds so good for you. What she found was putting 3 tablespoons in a meal adds a complete source of plant based protein, all of the vitamins and minerals the body needs on a daily basis, heart healthy fatty acids, the perfect ratio of omega 3 & 6 and a healthy dose of dietary fiber.

With all that in mind she started Happy Hemp with a mission to revolutionize the way we think about hemp and health. She now has her seeds in over 120+ stores nationwide and we’re honored to have her delicious products on our shelves.

She even dropped by and talked to our staff about them so if you want to try a sample or have any questions feel free to ask. For those not in Austin, her website has a wealth of information along with recipes that are simple and quick.
