The Zero-Waste Pumpkin

For you ATX folk, this post welcomes tomorrow’s cold front; for the rest of you, welcome to fall! Since we’re all about minimizing waste, we were excited to see this post from Smith and Ratliff: A Pumpkin, Stem to Seed, explaining how to use EVERY PART of your pumpkin, not letting any of it go to waste!

The results are delish: cinnamon-sugar roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin gingerbread pudding, and a fantastic pumpkin cocktail. Recipes and photos here – only question is, what to do with the stem?

(option for the stem: it’s compostable if you cut it up)

  1. I compost my pumpkins after their done(gray mold on ’em),my worms in my compost pile love them,as for the stem,it too can be composted or from my younger days , smoke it,like a grapevine twig.
